Driver Configuration and Dispersion
The LINEAR 5 MK2 115 XA is an active 2-way, bass-reflex loudspeaker with a 15-inch cone speaker (3-inch voice coil) and a 1-inch compression driver (1.7-inch voice coil) on a rotatable constant directivity horn, crossed over at 1.6kHz. Dispersion is 70 degrees horizontal by 50 degrees vertical (-6dB), and rotating the horn keeps coverage optimal when the speaker is used on its side. The 15-inch driver gives high-level output with noticeable low-end impact for its size.
Build and Mounting
The slanted monitor edge, a 31 degree monitor angle, lets the 115 XA work as a low-feedback stage monitor or as a powerful mid/high unit with subwoofers. The hybrid birch plywood and MDF cabinet has an acrylic enamel finish in Jet black (RAL 9005), a steel front grille backed with acoustic foam, two MultiGrip handles and one SingleGrip, a DuoTilt 3/7 degree pole mount and three M8 rigging points. It measures 45 x 68.5 x 42cm and weighs 27.6kg.
Amplification and DSP Compatibility
A Class-D bi-amplified power amplifier delivers 600W RMS and 1200W peak, with RMS and peak limiters protecting the speaker. The DSP preamplifier offers a parametric 10-band EQ, high-pass and low-pass filters, polarity, level, delay, limiter and mute, with Flat, Monitor, Low Cut and Remote filter presets and under 2ms latency at a 48kHz sample rate. It can be controlled from the HK Audio DSP CONTROL software for Windows and Mac over the EtherCON network port, and the DSP output passes the processed signal on to a non-networked speaker. MILAN digital audio transmission is supported.
Applications
A low-feedback stage monitor for bands and performers, or a powerful system mid/high unit paired with subwoofers, with high volume output that suits both small and large events.
