The COSMO C SUB CF 118 is the flyable version of HK Audio’s CS 118, a compact, direct-radiating 1x18-inch subwoofer built to COSMO’s modular 60 cm dimensions. High efficiency and 1,600W RMS power handling give it plenty of headroom down to the lowest frequencies, and it works flown with COSMO arrays or in ground stacks with COSMO or CONTOUR X components.

Driver Configuration and Dispersion

The CF 118 is a compact, direct-radiating, bass-reflex subwoofer built around a single 18-inch Beyma cone speaker with a neodymium magnet and a 4-inch voice coil. Its high efficiency and extremely high power handling provide a large dynamic headroom down to the lowest frequencies, with a usable range from 35.5Hz to 100Hz (-6dB) and 31Hz at -10dB. Four Speakon NL4 connectors, two at the front and two at the rear, make cabling easy, including for cardioid or endfire arrangements.

Build and Mounting

The cabinet follows COSMO's modular 60cm dimensions and is built from birch plywood with a PU coating in Jet black (RAL 9005) and a steel front grille with anticorrosive coating and acoustic foam backing. It measures 60.0 x 63.3 x 78.3cm, weighs 56.0kg, and has four HK Audio MultiGrip carrying handles, an M20 pole mount and 4-point rigging hardware. As the flyable version of the CS 118, it can hang with COSMO arrays on the CRF-80 rigging frame, or be ground-stacked with COSMO or CONTOUR X components using the CF-DO dolly and extension.

The CF 118 is passive and rated at 1600W RMS into 8 ohms. HK Audio provides ready-to-use filter sets for Lab.Gruppen PLM+ or Powersoft X amplifiers, with presets for Lab.gruppen IPX and IPD Series and Lake controllers and for Powersoft Armonia Plus, and optimised settings for quick cardioid and endfire setups.

Applications

The ideal addition to COSMO mid/high units for full-range arrays, especially for flying applications and anywhere there is no room to place bass enclosures on the floor. It is also suitable for ground-stack setups with COSMO or CONTOUR X components.
