Driver Configuration and Dispersion
HALO-C is a two-way passive compact line array element pairing a high-power 8-inch (203mm) neodymium LF drive unit with a 7.8-inch (197mm) neodymium AMT high-frequency drive unit on a bespoke waveguide, linked by EM Acoustics' passive crossover. The AMT and waveguide combination produces a true plane wave output with a well-behaved vertical pattern, which allows seamless array integration and minimises destructive interference between adjacent elements. Drive unit placement, crossover topology and waveguide design extend the nominal 95 degree horizontal coverage to below 1kHz.
Build and Mounting
The enclosure is built from 12mm and 18mm multi-laminate birch plywood, with bracing that minimises panel flexure, and measures only 492mm wide and weighs 17kg. An integral four-point flying system with aircraft-grade ball-lock pins supports arrays of up to 24 elements at a 10:1 safety factor, in flown or ground-stacked configurations, with splay angles from 0 to 15 degrees. A perforated stainless steel grille backed with acoustically transparent fabric protects the drivers, and the impact and weather resistant textured polyurethane finish is black or white as standard, with RAL colour matching and enhanced weather protection options. Two NL4 connections on the rear provide input and enclosure link.
Amplification and DSP Compatibility
HALO-C is fully passive and needs a single amplifier channel capable of 500-800W RMS into 8 ohms. External DSP with high-pass filters and limiters is recommended for system protection, so EM Acoustics' Advanced System Amplifiers are the recommended partners, including the DQ6, DQ10, DQ20, Di06, Di10 and Di20. DSP-enabled amplifiers from other makers or conventional amplifiers with external DSP can also be used, with settings published on the EM Acoustics website.
Applications
Suited to any application where size and weight are critical but high SPL is still needed: small to medium theatres, houses of worship, conference and corporate AV, live music venues and small to medium scale live sound reinforcement. It is also the companion element for larger HALO systems and pairs with the HALO-CS compact flyable subwoofer.
