Driver Configuration and Dispersion

HALO-B is a 2-way, reflex-loaded line array element pairing two 8-inch (203mm) neodymium LF transducers, each with a 2.5-inch (64mm) voice coil, with four 1-inch exit ring-diaphragm neodymium compression drivers. Like HALO-A, it uses a proprietary emulation manifold to combine the HF drivers into a plane-wave array, which EM Acoustics says provides twice the headroom of comparable systems, while the ring-radiator drivers significantly reduce third harmonic distortion. Loading of the LF drivers and the HF waveguide hold a nominal 110 degree horizontal pattern down to 350Hz, and staying two-way reduces off-axis parallax issues to a single crossover point.

Build and Mounting

The enclosure is built from 15mm and 30mm multi-laminate birch plywood, rebated, screwed and glued, with internal bracing and a low-loss porting structure. A 3-point flying system in ultra-high tensile steel with a Xylan coating uses quick-release pins, with array angles pre-set on individual elements while they sit on their transit carts and splay angles from 0.25 to 10 degrees. Hardware is rated for arrays of up to 24 elements at a 10:1 safety factor. The 3-step polyurethane finish is weather resistant and more resilient to impact damage, and is available in black or white as standard, with RAL colour matching and enhanced outdoor protection as options.

Amplification and DSP Compatibility

HALO-B is bi-amplified, so it needs two amplifier channels, and it relies on FIR DSP, so it must be used with an EM Acoustics Advanced System Amplifier. The DQ6, DQ10, DQ20, Di10 and Di20 are the recommended models, and up to eight HALO-B enclosures can be driven from a single DQ20.

Applications

Intended to work as a system in its own right or as a companion to the larger HALO-A or the smaller HALO-C, in both fixed installation and mobile use, including concert touring, houses of worship, live music venues, sports venues and theatres.
