Driver Configuration and Dispersion

HALO-A is a 2-way, reflex-loaded line array element pairing two 12-inch (305mm) neodymium LF transducers, each with a 3.5-inch (88mm) voice coil, with four neodymium compression drivers (3.4-inch diaphragm, 1.4-inch exit). A proprietary emulation manifold combines the output of the four HF drivers into a plane-wave array, which EM Acoustics says gives twice the headroom of comparable systems. The low-frequency loading and HF waveguide keep the horizontal dispersion consistent, with pattern control maintained down to 250Hz and a nominal 80 degrees horizontal. Staying two-way reduces off-axis parallax issues to a single crossover point.

Build and Mounting

The enclosure is built from 15mm and 30mm multi-laminate birch plywood, rebated, screwed and glued, with internal bracing and a low-loss porting structure to minimise panel flexure while keeping weight down. A 3-point flying system in ultra-high tensile steel with a Xylan coating uses quick-release pins, and array angles can be pre-set on individual elements while they sit on their transit carts. Rigging hardware is rated for arrays of up to 24 elements at a 10:1 safety factor. A hex-punched stainless steel grille backed with acoustically transparent fabric protects the drivers, and the 3-step polyurethane finish gives significant weather resistance. Black, white and RAL custom colour finishes are available.

Amplification and DSP Compatibility

HALO-A is bi-amplified, so it needs two amplifier channels, and it relies on FIR DSP, so it must be driven by an EM Acoustics Advanced System Amplifier to function correctly. The DQ10, DQ20 and Di20 are the recommended models. A single DQ20 can drive up to eight elements, although four per amplifier is recommended for full output.

Applications

Built for touring but equally at home in large format fixed installations, including concert touring, corporate AV, houses of worship, live music venues, sports venues and theatres.
