Rack Configuration and Connectivity
The SD-Rack is a 14-slot input and output rack, with the first seven slots for input cards and the last seven for output cards, allowing up to 56 inputs and 56 outputs. It supports up to 192kHz high-resolution analogue I/O converters and a comprehensive range of digital formats, and is compatible with all SD I/O modules. The front panel carries redundant MADI BNC ports, two MADI split outputs with built-in sample rate conversion, word clock I/O and a USB Type B port for firmware updates and DiGiCo Control software. At 48kHz the two MADI ports provide fully redundant cabling to the console, and at 96kHz they carry all 56 channels.
Build and Mounting
The SD-Rack is a 10U rack-mountable design measuring 482.7 x 371 x 443.7mm and weighing 26kg unloaded, built for touring with a rugged design. Two redundant hot-swappable power supplies and the MADI pod are removable for cleaning and repair, and cards are hot-swappable and automatically identified and configured. A front LCD menu screen flashes between white and green so a healthy sync can be seen from a distance, and locked controls prevent accidental setting changes.
Signal Processing and Compatibility
Based on the same Stealth FPGA technology as the SD-Range consoles, the SD-Rack offers high-resolution A/D conversion with DiGiCo’s Gain Tracking, giving every console on the loop +/-40dB of digital gain. An optional Optocore interface (HMA, OpticalCON or ST, upgradable to SingleMode) lets it run on an optical loop at 96kHz alongside a down-sampled 48kHz MADI feed, which suits broadcast truck splits. Compatible cards include 32-bit mic pre-amp, 32-bit DAC, ADC and DAC, AES/EBU I/O, AES-42, Dante, ADAT, SDI and Aviom. Cards are sold separately, and this model is supplied unloaded with MADI only.
