BRI has been a pioneer in the clinical integration of EEG and body measures. We began exploring this technique in the early 1980's and quickly discovered the great power this technique has for enhancing mind-body awareness. The Bio Integrator was designed from the ground up to fully integrate all EEG and body measures simultaneously. You can pick and choose whatever graphs, mandalas, puzzles, and measures you want in real-time without limitations. You can also choose among countless audio options in real time to complete the sensory envelope for clients.
The Bio Integrator’s FFTs for EEG are measured 20 times per second per channel, providing ultra-fast updates for visual and audio feedback. Because we update our screens 20 times per second, the data that are analyzed are presented onscreen every 50 milliseconds. Not only do the displays animate quickly, but a person's internal EEG and body shifts are fed back at a significantly higher rate.
The Bio Integrator provides an exciting mixture of EEG, EMG, Temp, Heart Rate/Cardiovascular, SCL, and Respiration for feedback and research. You can display any combination of EEG and body measures on your feedback screens. You can mix and match, on-the-fly, creating screens that suit you and your client whenever you want.
With a powerful Heart/RSA/Respiratory system, the Bio Integrator offers great flexibility in monitoring or training sophisticated relationships between heart and respiration measures. Features in this system include:
Spectral Heart Rate Analysis: Power spectrum analysis teases apart the heartbeat time series into its component waveforms. These are waves riding on other waves, sinusoids of varying amplitudes and phase. From the component waveforms, a power spectrum can be displayed with high peaks and low peaks at different frequencies reflecting the relative energy of each component. Four main oscillatory systems can be recognized in our power spectrum analysis of heart rate variability:
The great value of the power spectrum biofeedback methods is that it shows clearly the presence of slow wave activity in the heart rate variability (HRV) pattern -- something hard to see in the beat-to-beat trace because it takes so many beats over multiple breath cycles to play out. The Bio Integrator shows this feature in real-time through four different displays:
While you are looking at your power spectrum in real-time, you can also view a whole set of measures and displays as well, including:
You can also look at virtually any relationship among heart rate, PPG, heart rate spectrum, BVP, BV, RSA amplitude, respiration rate, and either channel of respiration through the 56 cardiovascular/respiration screens we have built into this system. You can easily select graphs showing the combinations of measures that interest you. Some examples of cardiovascular and respiratory system graphs are Heart Rate with TempL & TempR; or Heart Rate, Raw Resp 1 & Raw Resp 2; or Heart Rate, Raw PPG & Blood Volume; or Blood Volume, Raw PPG & Raw Resp 1; or Raw Resp 1 & Raw Resp 2. You can view these graphs alone, or in powerful combinations in two-per-screen or four-per-screen displays. And as always, you can mix and match on-the-fly any of the other graphs, such as EEG or other body measures with these.
