Comparing the Bio Integrator and Bio Integrator Phoenix Versions

Which is better for you: the Bio Integrator, or the Bio Integrator Phoenix?

Both the Bio Integrator and the Bio Integrator Phoenix feature the ability to measure up to 8 channels:  2 channels of EEG such as right- and left-brain activity while simultaneously measuring peripheral blood flow, respiration, heart rate, electrodermal activity, and skeletal muscle activity.  All of these measures combine to produce an audiovisual envelope that surrounds the person in training with state-of-the art sound and beautiful visual displays.  The Bio Integrator and Bio Integrator Phoenix both feature an 8-channel high-performance encoder and you have the option of ordering any of the following amplifiers: 2 EEGs, 2 EMGs, Temp, SCL, Heart Rate, and Respiration.

Bio Integrator  -  If you would prefer to work with only one monitor; if you would rather use your older computer equipment; or if you intend to purchase a less expensive desktop or laptop, the Bio Integrator might be your best bet.  The regular Bio Integrator is designed for the user who wants an effective biofeedback system that is cheaper and simpler. This may be a good choice for those who are less experienced with biofeedback and want a simpler system.  The regular Bio Integrator runs on one monitor, although if you have two monitors connected, in most cases you can choose which monitor you want to run it on.

Bio Integrator Phoenix – This is our flagship product: a true dual-monitor system, it makes use of more recent computer components.  The Phoenix allows you to have two instances of the Bio Integrator open at one time, receiving real-time data displayed however you want on each monitor.  You use two monitors: a primary monitor (for the clinician) and a secondary monitor (for the client).  These fully independent screens let you have a simple screen for the client and a much more complex one for you.  Both screens can be reconfigured on-the-fly without any limitations.  You can even swap them from one screen to the other in real-time.

What are some of the differences between the Phoenix version of the Bio Integrator and the regular Bio Integrator?

·      Audio Controls: With the Phoenix, you control the audio from the clinician monitor without interrupting the client when you change audio settings.  With the regular Bio Integrator, you control audio from the client screen.

·       Sets of Screens: With the Phoenix, you can study a much more comprehensive set of screens on your monitor while the client trains on something simpler on their monitor. With the regular Bio Integrator, you are limited to one screen.

·       Trend Data: With the Phoenix, you can see real-time trend data on the clinician monitor while the client trains on the client monitor. With the regular Bio Integrator, you are limited to one screen, although you can look at trend data on that screen.

·       Integrating Multimedia: With the Phoenix, it's easier to integrate media from websites, DVD's and/or MP3 media, although you can do this as well on the regular Bio Integrator.

·       Using Other Applications: With the Phoenix, the client screen can run in full-screen mode while the clinician screen runs in windowed mode (letting you do such things as work in Word or Excel, conduct research on the internet, or consult the User Guide, while the client trains).  With the regular Bio Integrator, if you are using two monitors, you can run the Bio Integrator on one monitor while using other applications on the other.

·       Swapping Screens: With the Phoenix, you can swap the two instances of the program from monitor to monitor. For example, it's easy to change the modality for client training - you set up the desired screen on the clinician monitor and drag it over to the client monitor.

·       Reviewing Previously Recorded Data: With the Phoenix, can review previously recorded client data on your monitor while the current client is training in real-time on their monitor. You can access Review a Session data, Longitudinal data and Virtual Playback data while client is doing biofeedback training.

·       Training Templates: With the Phoenix, you can present training templates that the client can use as models for training in real time  - you can bring up a two-per and size it so that it presents a desirable pattern (either moving or still) and drag it over so that it can be seen above the client's real-time data, e.g., respiration.

·        Screen Options: With the Phoenix, you can bring up a four-per on the clinician screen while the client is training on a  full screen, re-size the four-per so that only one viewport is showing, drag it to the corner of the client monitor, and slide from viewport to viewport by using the slider bar.

·       Orchestrating Audiovisual Media: With the Phoenix, you can cue up audiovisual material (such as a particular part of a DVD) and bring it over to the corner of the client's monitor at the best time for the client - no interrupting training at sensitive times.  With the regular Bio Integrator, you can do this if you are using two monitors.

·       Picture-in-Picture: With the Phoenix, you can use a picture-in-picture mode to present real-time client data in full screen with a  DVD in the corner, or vice-versa. With the regular Bio Integrator, you can do this if you are using two monitors.

·       Resizing the Bio Integrator with Multimedia: With the Phoenix, you can resize and superimpose both the clinician and the client screens over an educational DVD, each showing a different but complementary example of the client's psychophysiology in relation to the topic being explored on the DVD.
